Overview

As a welder, your resume should be concise, informative and highlight your experience, skills and relevant qualifications. Employers need to know that you can handle the job requirements that come along with the trade.

Personal Information

The first section of your resume should include your personal information. This typically includes your full name, contact information (email, phone number, address), and any relevant social media accounts such as LinkedIn.

Objective or Summary

Next, include an objective or summary statement that briefly describes your experience, skills and what type of position you’re interested in. This section should be tailored to the specific job you are applying for.

Work Experience

Your work experience section should list your previous positions, the company name and location, employment dates and a brief description of your responsibilities and achievements. Be sure to focus on accomplishments and skills that are relevant to the job you are applying for.

• List the most recent job first, and work backwards in chronological order
• Include both paid and unpaid experience, including internships or apprenticeships
• Use bullet points to highlight your responsibilities and achievements
• Be specific - list the type of welding, materials and equipment you’ve worked with

Education and Certifications

Including your education and certifications is important as it shows employers that you are committed to improving your skills and knowledge. This section should list your degree (if applicable), school name and location, graduation date, and any additional certifications or training you have received.

• List your highest degree first, and work downwards
• Include any relevant training, such as welding certificates or safety training courses
• If you have not obtained a degree, list your relevant coursework or apprenticeships

Skills

Your skills section should list your technical skills and soft skills. Technical skills could include TIG welding, MIG welding, or other related skills. Soft skills could include communication, problem solving, or leadership.

• Be sure to include the skills that match the job requirements listed in the job posting
• Use bullet points to highlight each skill

References

At the end of your resume, include a list of professional references. This section should include the name, job title, relationship to you, and contact information for each reference.
